Craig Appreciation – Woodstock Portrait Photography

I talk about him a lot, but it dawned on me the other day that I can probably bet most of you have no clue who this infamous Craig character is.

This is my husband, Craig. He’s my best friend and a constant source of creative energy and support for everything that I decide I’m going to do, or more often, try to do. Craig works as a Marketing Assistant for a local company and is a Graphic Designer by trade, so naturally he chimes in whenever there is a decision to be made about the design of something. Sometimes this is annoying, but all of the time it is helpful. It’s really a win win situation with both of us being in creative fields, and thankfully, he knows how to run a camera so he sometimes plays assistant.

Friday Jams – Brightest Dawn Photography

I’m not a huge radio listener. I’m really not. I prefer to listen to albums in their entirety, I love listening to music that reminds me of a special time in my past or a special person, and I usually prefer to jam out to tunes that the average joe isn’t interested in (i.e. Heavy Metal or Vivaldi, depending on my mood).

That being said, sometimes I’ll hear a bit of a song on the radio that intrigues me, and often against my best interests, I become addicted to it. It’s kind of terrible. That’s okay, I will gladly take a stand about what I like so I have no shame and, so help me, I will sing that catchy pop song everywhere. I don’t mind, but then there’s Craig.

A Lifestyle Session with Daisy – Brightest Dawn Photography

Sometimes it’s nice to be able to just take snapshots of life as it’s happening around you. Photojournalism and documentary type photos are some of my absolute favourite styles to look at and I love every chance I get to take photos in the more lifestyle photography type session. It’s so nice to see photos that aren’t just beautiful or technically good, but photos that tell a story, photos that make you feel.

Guess Who’s Back – Brightest Dawn Photography

Wow.

I have been silent since March. That is very unlike me, as most of you probably know. But I suppose I had good reasons to be. The past few months have been chopped full of personal changes that undoubtedly impacted every aspect of my life, including Brightest Dawn Photography.

Melissa – Woodstock Portrait Photography

I had the pleasure of getting together with Melissa a couple weeks ago to grab a few headshots and catch up on life.

Melissa is currently finishing up her interior decorating course at Algonquin College in Ottawa. Upon completion, Melissa will be aiming to serve both Ottawa and the River Valley with her designing skills. We had a lot of fun with this shoot. I don’t think there was a moment when we weren’t laughing about something, getting attacked by her cat, Cooper, or just talking about the ins and outs of starting up a small business. It was also kind of nice to shoot some headshots as it’s not something I get to do that often. I love lifestyle portraiture, and headshots are no different, as I’m sure you can see below. What better way to promote yourself then by showing yourself doing what you love!

The Cold and Wedding Plans – Brightest Dawn Photography

Hello all!

I must say, I have really neglected my blogging as of late. I don’t know where you’re reading from, but if you live in Atlantic Canada you probably know what I mean when I talk about “The Cold” going around. This “cold” has literally plagued everyone I know this winter season, some poor souls have had to deal with it twice. Not cool, cold, not cool.

Joe & Rachel – Woodstock Couples Photography

I had the opportunity to get together with Joe and Rach a couple weeks ago and I can say I absolutely loved it. It had to be at least -25 out that day, but Joe and Rach were ready to combat the cold with some cuddling (and frequent trips to the car to warm up). Playfulness in a couple is admirable quality, in my humble opinion, so I was stoked that they both agreed to treck out into two-foot deep snow, then pick it up in un-mittened hands, and proceed to throw it at each other. 😛 A couple days later we got together at Joe’s parents home and we had a few quick minutes in front of a cozy and beautiful fireplace. Love the cuddles!

Thanks Joe and Rach for spending a cold day full of laughs with me!

Rod & Erin – Halifax Wedding Photography

** All photos were taken by Brightest Dawn Photography while assisting Tanya Shields Photography **

Rod & Erin’s wedding was my second wedding shooting as a second shooter and took place all over Halifax. I really enjoyed the day and I’m so glad I got to be a part of it!

A Christening – Woodstock Events Photography

I had the pleasure of filling in last minute at a christening just over a week ago. The Keenans were welcoming and let me into a special moment in Ella’s life. I love events of all sorts and this was no different – capturing expressions and experiences put me at a photo high for the next few days. If you have an event, like a baptismal, christening, or wedding that you would like to have a photographer for, please don’t hesitate at contacting me! : )

2012 Is So Last Year… – Brightest Dawn Photography

Well. It’s finished. Finally.

2012 was a huge year of changes, learning, and struggles. I got engaged and started on that amazing journey. I met and photographed a lot of seriously amazing people in both Halifax and Woodstock, with every spot in between. I learned a lot from peers and teachers at CAT and I finished my program strong. I’ve taken some really cool photos,  along with some really crappy ones. I’ve learned that it’s okay to make mistakes and not be the best – mistakes make you grow and not being the best gives you drive. I’ve cried and laughed and held hands and hugged.
