A Christening – Woodstock Events Photography

I had the pleasure of filling in last minute at a christening just over a week ago. The Keenans were welcoming and let me into a special moment in Ella’s life. I love events of all sorts and this was no different – capturing expressions and experiences put me at a photo high for the next few days. If you have an event, like a baptismal, christening, or wedding that you would like to have a photographer for, please don’t hesitate at contacting me! : )

2012 Is So Last Year… – Brightest Dawn Photography

Well. It’s finished. Finally.

2012 was a huge year of changes, learning, and struggles. I got engaged and started on that amazing journey. I met and photographed a lot of seriously amazing people in both Halifax and Woodstock, with every spot in between. I learned a lot from peers and teachers at CAT and I finished my program strong. I’ve taken some really cool photos,  along with some really crappy ones. I’ve learned that it’s okay to make mistakes and not be the best – mistakes make you grow and not being the best gives you drive. I’ve cried and laughed and held hands and hugged.

O’Toole Gallery Opening – Woodstock Event Photography

The O’Toole Gallery opening took place during Midnight Madness and I decided that Craig and I should pop over and see what all was displayed. I’m actually really excited that there is now a place in our small town to view and purchase local art! If you would like to get more info on O’Toole Gallery and what they are all about, you can check them out Here

Midnight Madness – Woodstock Events Photography

Every year the Town of Woodstock holds an evening of festivities titled “Midnight Madness”. Local business advertise fantastic deals that run until midnight, there are fireworks and hot chocolate, and everyone gathers downtown for the official lighting of the Christmas lights. It’s a bit of a Christmas celebration that, unfortunately, I haven’t been able to participate in while away at school these past three years. Obviously I was a little excited to be there this year!

In Remembrance – Woodstock Events Photography

Every year I go to the Cenotaph with my family to honour and remember those who have fought and won our freedom, as well as those who continue to protect our country. In the past, I played with the Woodstock High School band and wasn’t able to enjoy the ceremony in the same way as I was concentrated on playing the musical program. My mind often wandered, thinking about the cold and wondering how much longer we would be out in it.

Keaton & Drew – Woodstock Couples Photography

Craig and I took our annual trip up to the Old Home Week fair grounds earlier this summer, solely to buy curly fries from the vendor just inside the entrance and happily bumped into Keaton and Drew, who were also in the line up for fries. We exchanged greetings and weather comments before photography came up. Drew wanted to have some portraits taken of her and Keaton, so we made tentative plans to get together once I had finished school.

Giving Thanks – Brightest Dawn Photography

I love this time of year. It’s chilly outside, which requires extra layers of clothing (minus socks, because I despise socks with every fiber of my being) and warm drinks.

The trees are turning brilliant colours and everyday the scenery is different. I love the vibrant oranges and reds that fill the sky.

Christmas is just around the corner (I know, freak out a little bit). Another time that is filled with family and warm moments spent watching snow fall.

Samantha – Woodstock Grad Photography

Samantha contacted a couple of weeks ago about getting some senior portraits done and I was really excited. We had originally scheduled them for later this week, then something came up which meant we had to get together a little sooner than planned – I’m so happy for this little change of plans!

We met up in town and then I followed her and her boyfriend Kevin down a little country dirt road to his parents home. I love farms. There are literally a million and one backdrops and looks to choose from on a farm!

Drew & Gillian – Halifax Wedding Photography

*Please note that all photos featured in this post were taken by Brightest Dawn Photography while working as an assistant to Tanya Shields*

While at CAT I was able to meet a lot of fantastic people and get inspired by their work. My lighting instructor Liam gave me a great recommendation as Tanya was looking for a second shooter/assistant for the summer. A few Facebook messages and a meeting later and Tanya asked me to tag along and capture Gillian and Drew’s Halifax wedding with her.

Coming Home – Brightest Dawn Photography

As I may have mentioned previously, I’m finally done my program at the Centre for Arts and Technology in Halifax and I have now been home for a week. I thought that I would be able to have a little bit of a break after being a full time student for a year, but that would be too easy. I’ve been working hard at moving back into my parents house (I officially have too much stuff for their house), getting my business up and running (there is a lot of paperwork), teaching beginner violin lessons part time, as well as catching up with friends, my fiance, my family, and life in general.
