Friday Jams – Brightest Dawn Photography

I’m not a huge radio listener. I’m really not. I prefer to listen to albums in their entirety, I love listening to music that reminds me of a special time in my past or a special person, and I usually prefer to jam out to tunes that the average joe isn’t interested in (i.e. Heavy Metal or Vivaldi, depending on my mood).

That being said, sometimes I’ll hear a bit of a song on the radio that intrigues me, and often against my best interests, I become addicted to it. It’s kind of terrible. That’s okay, I will gladly take a stand about what I like so I have no shame and, so help me, I will sing that catchy pop song everywhere. I don’t mind, but then there’s Craig.

A Lifestyle Session with Daisy – Brightest Dawn Photography

Sometimes it’s nice to be able to just take snapshots of life as it’s happening around you. Photojournalism and documentary type photos are some of my absolute favourite styles to look at and I love every chance I get to take photos in the more lifestyle photography type session. It’s so nice to see photos that aren’t just beautiful or technically good, but photos that tell a story, photos that make you feel.

Guess Who’s Back – Brightest Dawn Photography

Wow.

I have been silent since March. That is very unlike me, as most of you probably know. But I suppose I had good reasons to be. The past few months have been chopped full of personal changes that undoubtedly impacted every aspect of my life, including Brightest Dawn Photography.

2012 Is So Last Year… – Brightest Dawn Photography

Well. It’s finished. Finally.

2012 was a huge year of changes, learning, and struggles. I got engaged and started on that amazing journey. I met and photographed a lot of seriously amazing people in both Halifax and Woodstock, with every spot in between. I learned a lot from peers and teachers at CAT and I finished my program strong. I’ve taken some really cool photos,  along with some really crappy ones. I’ve learned that it’s okay to make mistakes and not be the best – mistakes make you grow and not being the best gives you drive. I’ve cried and laughed and held hands and hugged.

Giving Thanks – Brightest Dawn Photography

I love this time of year. It’s chilly outside, which requires extra layers of clothing (minus socks, because I despise socks with every fiber of my being) and warm drinks.

The trees are turning brilliant colours and everyday the scenery is different. I love the vibrant oranges and reds that fill the sky.

Christmas is just around the corner (I know, freak out a little bit). Another time that is filled with family and warm moments spent watching snow fall.

Coming Home – Brightest Dawn Photography

As I may have mentioned previously, I’m finally done my program at the Centre for Arts and Technology in Halifax and I have now been home for a week. I thought that I would be able to have a little bit of a break after being a full time student for a year, but that would be too easy. I’ve been working hard at moving back into my parents house (I officially have too much stuff for their house), getting my business up and running (there is a lot of paperwork), teaching beginner violin lessons part time, as well as catching up with friends, my fiance, my family, and life in general.

Planning, Proposals, More Planning – Brightest Dawn Photography

So I’d like to take some time today to let you know what I’ve been up to, some major positive changes, and what’s to come!

As some of you may know, I spent the last two weeks at home in Woodstock with my family and fiance due to it being a break between semesters. I can not begin to express how needed that break was! Sometimes just sitting at home with your dog can be the absolute best remedy for stress. The first week I was there wasn’t actually much like that at all, my youngest sister had her prom and graduation and boy, were we busy!! Shannon was absolutely radiant on her prom day and I was so proud to be there watching her and her date soak up the attention. Graduation was no different, and even though it was probably 100 degrees in that arena, I would sit through it all over again just to see her smile with her diploma. I know, I know, I’m a sap.

Sunny Days – Brightest Dawn Photography

Hello All!

The semester is beginning to wind down and as such I’ve been pretty busy getting all of my school responsibilities looked after. It’s nuts to think that I will be finished in 3 months and then I’ll have to have a “real job” :P.

There have been some great things happening for me lately, both personally and professionally, that have really brought up my spirits towards this path that I’ve chosen. Sometimes it’s really scary to know that I hold all of my success or failure right in my hands – talk about massive amounts of pressure. I’m struggled with that mentality towards photography for a long time, but now that I’m starting to see some results it feels okay again!

A busy week – Brightest Dawn Photography

These past couple weeks have just flown by, it’s kind of ridiculous. I’ve been working on a lot of school related projects, I’m currently sick, which blows, and I had a pretty awesome visit with Craig, my fiance. So I’ll just run through a couple things that I’ve been excited about in the past little while!

Last week I had the pleasure of photographing my first fashion show for Fashion SOS, an event that was put on with the intent of donating the proceeds towards the SOS Children’s Villages organization. There were a few hiccups along the way, but for the most part it was a fun way to test my low light skills. I also figured out that I probably couldn’t do photos for runways often because it’s such a weird thing to try to capture, especially when your models are super eager and can’t stay in one spot! Living and learning I guess you might say. I’ll be posting a separate blog post on this event!

The Very First Post – Brightest Dawn Photography

Hello everyone!

I can barely type this I’m so excited, but I think I can manage. The reason why I’m excited? After a lot of hard work, determination, late nights, and lots of design talk, my website, this website, is FINALLY finished!!!! It’s phenomenal. I really hope you all love it as much as I do. I’m going to do my best to keep the images as updated as possible and hopefully in the future we’ll have a little bit bigger portfolio for you to look through, but hey, we have lots of time to work on that!
