Every year the Town of Woodstock holds an evening of festivities titled “Midnight Madness”. Local business advertise fantastic deals that run until midnight, there are fireworks and hot chocolate, and everyone gathers downtown for the official lighting of the Christmas lights. It’s a bit of a Christmas celebration that, unfortunately, I haven’t been able to participate in while away at school these past three years. Obviously I was a little excited to be there this year!
Craig and I headed downtown and right into the festivities. Thankfully, the temperature wasn’t as cold as it usually is and I brought my camera out to capture a bit of the celebration. I teach violin part time at M.E.S. Music downtown and one of my fiddle students, Layla, along with her sister, played a few tunes in the store front of Home Hardware. I loved watching the crowd sing and smile along at them through the window.
The fireworks were absolutely fantastic. So many children watched on in wonder with their parents, often forgetting about the cold. Local businesses, such as Made You Blush and Newnham and Slipp Pharmacy, were absolutely swarming with customers eager to take advantage of the Christmas deals. I also got the chance to sneak into the *new* used bookstore Page Turners. I don’t know about you, but I love the smell of old books and now there is a place that I can get that where I want!
The Town of Woodstock, coupled with all the fantastic small businesses downtown, really make this event and I think it would be sorely missed. I already am anticipating next year!
