Monday was a super busy day for me with the Halifax Jazz Festival – at the main Festival Tent for the majority of the afternoon and back again that night for two more performers. When I was signing up to cover events, I just knew I had to be there for these performances!
I have loved The Beatles for most of my teenage life (I know, not very long) and each chance I get to experience their music I take. When I saw that the two acts performing Monday were dedicated almost entirely to the music of The Beatles but featured a twist of jazz I knew that I would instantly love everything, and I did!
John Chiasson and the Lonely Hearts Club Band have taken The Beatles music and truly crafted it to suit the jazz style. I could listen all day to their arrangements of some of my favourite tunes.
Shine On: The Universe of John Lennon was the closing act for the evening and I can’t even express how awesome they were. The group, made up of 8 very talented individuals, covered the great John Lennon’s music career from conception to just before his death. Each arrangement was unique and crafted specifically to enhance the melodies and lyrics.
