Resolutions – Brightest Dawn Photography

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what I would like to accomplish this year. I normally think resolutions are silly, and when I mentioned them to Craig he scoffed, but I think there is some merit in planning to become better, even if you fall a little short. So, here are some things I intend to work on this year so I can be better for me, and provide a better experience, product, and service for you.

– I would love to invest in some gear this year, specifically a new camera body, a macro lens, and some additional lighting equipment. I feel really confident in what I know how to do with the gear I have now, but I’m feeling that in some areas I am being limited.

– I want to push myself outside of my shooting box. I want to go for the unflattering angle, the underexposed moment. I need to just shoot more and not be concerned as much with just getting the perfect moments, I wanna show the mistakes too. I want to strive a bit more for a photojournalistic approach and really see the world.

– This year is the year that I am going to start experimenting with film. This past summer my mother gave me an old film camera that she picked up at a yardsale and I would love to be able to incorporate it into my regular session experience. This means I need to shoot film – A LOT. It might work out, I might hate it, but gosh darn it, I’m gonna give it a go.

– I would love to be able to shoot more weddings on my own this year. I have a couple booked and would love to book more -shameless plug- because I really feel that that is the direction that I’m meant to travel towards. Nothing is too small, wacky, out of the ordinary, or odd. I would be beside myself to photograph any wedding, near or far, and if you know anyone who may still be looking for their photographer, tell them to hit me up! ; )

– I need to be a better accountant. My mother is trying, patiently I may add, to show me how to keep track of everything efficiently and professionally, but let’s face it, I’m a tough case.

– I’m shooting this year with the hope to get my work featured somewhere. A blog, a newspaper, a magazine, anywhere. This isn’t the most important thing on this list, I just think it would be stinkin’ cool to get featured on someplace like The Rock and Roll Bride.

– Finally, I want to learn something, hopefully multiple, new things. New techniques, new ways to shoot, new people. : )
